This and THAT!

The ad on the left is a good example of hierarchy. The designer's of this ad directed readers to exactly what was important for them to know. Readers know that the model is new, and the reference to how big it is and how many slugs it has, is important because other ones are most likely bigger and have more slugs (this sets their product apart from others).
On the other hand, the ad on the right is awful. It seems that the designers were going for a hierarchy design--they just weren't very successful. The designers put a jumble of text together, expecting people to know the types of wood machinery they sold, but personally the only thing I read was "Wood Working Machinery" and "Superior to any use. Price reduced to suit the times." Maybe that's all they wanted reader's to read, but I wouldn't buy their products because I don't know what products they sell in the first place! There was definitely a better way to do this, they could definitely take a lesson from the ad on the left!
