Tom Kennedy

I went to the lecture given my Tom Kennedy, a photojournalist and now currently the head of the New York Post's multimedia department. He talked about how print journalism is in trouble and photography is being cut back significantly. He suggest that stories now must be riveting and connect with people. There must be power in the story and readers feel a connection personally are more likely to continue reading the story. Readers must be pulled in and the subject becomes more like a one on one connection. Photojournalists must step up their game, and find a way to compete in the digital age. Multimedia is a great outlet for photojournalists, and Kennedy suggests that finding new technology is important when competing with videos and audio. In order to find these new outlets him and his team use the site blue box to experiment with different forms of multimedia and eventually interactive media at some point. Right now photojournalism in in a discovery zone and they are figuring out what to do next.
