Grid-Based Design Blog Post

Unfortunately, I can't get my computer to take a screen shot of the website I want to use. Thus everyone can direct their browsers to the Bloomingdale's homepage:
www.bloomingdales.com.

The Bloomingdale's homepage is an example of joining for variety. Bloomingdale's (like many other department and clothing stores) uses a horizontal grid, that gives the site an open, easy feel. Although the site uses minimal pictures, each set of boots is in it's own distinct grid, but the larger picture does go into a different grid, but it's not really awkward. I also like the horizontal grid in combination with all the white space the web designer left. I do think that the right side ("The First Cut") is not as aesthetically pleasing; I don't know if the web designer was trying to give the site more dimension by angling the lines, but next time he/she should just try layering, because the way he did it just isn't cutting it (no pun intended).
