Feature Spread
Cover Page
I chose my particular story because I found it was interesting that the Saints reached the 8-0 mark for the first time in franchise history. Drew Brees, the quarterback, is rising the ranks as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I use the song “When the saints go Marching in” as a play on the team’s name and their success. The word “saints” is in a Rockwell typeface and is 154 pt. The other words in the headline are size seventy-eight. I used the gold throughout the magazine and the values for this color are R=207 G= 170 B=117. I ultimately modeled my spread after a combination of “The Sporting News” and “Sports Illustrated”. I used various weights of the typeface Brioso Pro 64, 30 and 20 pts and specifically stroked the title of my magazine “Inside Football” with a 3pt white stroke. This font resembled the typeface used in the Saints logo that is in the end zone in the Superdome. I used the Trajan Pro font 45 pt with values of R=0 G=55 B=135 to match the color in the compass and Magellan logo.
My deckhead is in Adobe Garamond Bold as is a weight of 24 pt and I italicized the byline to make it stand out more. My body text is Janson Text Std., which is a size of 13 pt on my feature spread and 10 pt. on my jump spread. My pull quotes and caption headline are Rockwell as well, but they are a size of eighteen instead, so they still pop from the page. My caption is Tahoma 10 pt and I used this being a sans serif to create variation between it and my body text. My sidebar title is in Rockwell as well but the body in it is Eurostile 14 pt. Overall I feel that I created a magazine that emulates those that I tried to model my feature story towards, but it still possesses it own uniqueness. I used the saints logo to become the T in my headline which give my headline an identity. I used drop-caps in the same typeface as my headline to aid in succinctness of my article.

I don’t know why, but I lowered the resolution in some of my photos. They were still most certainly high quality and most were originally above atleast 200.
