Magazine

I chose to art direct this story about Edward Norton because of its relevance and the multiple areas I was able to cover because of its variety. Instead of just talking about his movies (which I left for the sidebar), I was able to get pictures of him running the marathon, training in Africa, and at the premiere of his documentary. I titled my magazine “Pop Vulture” and had its goal be “scavenging the world for all things pop culture." I believe this story fits perfectly into that magazine.

The title of my magazine is in Utopia STD Light with a dark red that really makes it stand out against the gray background. The color of the text near the bottom left of the cover is taken from the white and blue of his eyes, adjusted slightly to be easier to read. The font for this is Optima. The title of the feature and the entire sidebar is in Minister STD Light, a font that I believe suits Edward Norton’s style: cool, slick and classy all at the same time which is done by the small but evident serifs. For my body I used ITC Stone Serf, which I believe is very easy to read.

I chose to blend a picture of Norton in a suit with the 2009 New York City marathon because it gave the impression of your typical Hollywood actor against a backdrop of what he is actually like. All the pictures of him running in the marathon were not large enough for the first page as I had hoped so I had to make due by blending the two pictures together, and putting the smaller pictures in the body. The sidebar showcases his highlights in films that have developed a cult following.
