Week Eleven- Usability

The Weather Channel's weather.com has great usability. I use this site almost every morning because let's face it the weather in Syracuse is not one of its most constant elements. The home site has the weather search bar clearly displayed in the top left corner with its directions "Enter Zip or US / world city" located in the search bar. After you enter your zip code, it takes you to the main weather page for that city with the current weather conditions front and center on the page. If you scroll down on the page you can find a more detailed forecast of today's, tonight's, and tomorrow's weather. The other weather forecast options run horizontally across the top of the page so you can easily access the hour-by-hour, weekend, 10-day, and monthly forecasts, and the radar maps.
Overall weather.com is a very easy site to navigate. It keeps its layouts consistent and simple making them easy to scan through to find what you are looking for. Its colors and typefaces are also consistent so the eye doesn't get distracted. The site uses visual hierarchy well so that the current weather conditions are displayed in the largest fonts, followed by the city name in a smaller font and then the more detailed weather information in an even smaller font.
