Week Twelve- Magazine Project Posting

I decided to do my magazine project on Perez Hilton because his celebrity gossip blog is one of my guilty pleasures. I used the LexisNexis database to find an article from the Los Angeles Times. I decided to call my magazine Noise because noise can mean random communication, which I think is what magazines are usually about.

For the magazine cover, I went with News Gothic because I wanted a sans-serif font that was very clean with no fuss. On the second spread, I went with SF Hollywood Hills for the article title. I wanted the font to mimic the Hollywood hills sign in Hollywood, CA so I searched on the internet for a font that I could download. I increased the size of the words hated and Hollywood in the headline to emphasize them. I used Minion Pro Semibold for the deckhead and to maintain visual continuity I increased the size of the words fat, gay, blunt, merciless, and not sorry so that they stand out from the rest of the deckhead. For the third spread, I used Minion Pro Regular for the body copy. To maintain the visual continuity from the second spread I used SF Hollywood Hills for the body headers, pull quotes, and in the sidebar.

The bright pink font color that I used comes from the pink of Perez’s hair in the image on the front cover and the light pink background color is the same background color as Perez Hilton’s blog, perezhilton.com.

The last page of my magazine spread wouldn't load but it was just a page the solid pale pink color.

  1. I love the cover of this magazine. The title, "Noise" looks very simple, but is nicely kerned so that the cover doesn't look cluttered. The photo used works very well with the cover line because the pink color matches his hair, and the cover line is placed in line with the subject's eyes.
The picture used in the first spread also works very well with the headline. We automatically get a glimpse of the loud, obnoxious person that Perez Hilton can be, even without reading the article. The use of both bright and light pink for the pull quotes and side bar tie together the entire spread and carry the readers eye to each section.
