Claire Bourque: Poster Project

Design Strategy:
I designed a poster for Kappa Alpha Theta's spring philanthropy. Every year, the sorority hosts an all day flag football tournament that the men's fraternities compete in. Each team must pay a fee to enter the tournament and all proceeds go to CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. After speaking with the client, I had minimal restrictions and was told to use my own judgment.
The tournament has become an annual event that the fraternities take very seriously, because in reality, men between the ages of 18 and 25 are constantly competing to be the best. For these reasons, I could immediately target my audience to be all men involved in fraternities. Although charity is the backbone of this event, that was not the headline that would draw in my audience.
I used a large visual to consume almost my entire poster because when men think of sports and competition they do not want to read about it, they want to see it. I placed some of the fraternity nicknames on the silhouettes so that the men who see the poster could quickly identify and relate with it. The simple headline packed with alliteration and the word "win" is all it really takes to spark a flame in any "frat guy." Once my audience is hooked by those two things, their eyes will flow down the poster to the smaller typefaces to find out the details.
