This was a poster that I found on the Syracuse University website. Not only does it speak strongly to the ideas behind the Gestalt theory with its simple fonts and graphics, but it represents how the university is moving forward when it comes to typography.
I'm trying to figure out what the new font family is, but this school year, the university moved away from it's old font and decided to redesign it's website to make it more navigable and easy to read. One aspect of the site that I'm really impressed with is the "Green Univercity" page, which deals solely with sustainability.
This green color (and the green movement) is very popular right now. I like how they have associated our school color with the green motto, and included to tree to represent growth and school spirit.
It follows the rule of proximity very nicely. The kerning between the letters fills the whole space, but also follows the simplistic rule. It's repetitious because it previews an updated version of an older sustainability logo, and uses fonts from other places on campus to strike a familiar chord.
I noticed the clear, direct message, and thought to myself if I was actually following the directive. Maybe now I will start to "green the orange" more effectively by doing my part. Clearly, the university is doing there part by starting out with a great poster campaign.
