MLB Postseason Ad

This advertisement for MLB Postseason effectively incorporates color principles to create an exciting, bold advertisement that mirrors the passion of baseball playoffs. First off, the red background immediately draws in attention to the picture. This is an effective use of gestalt principles, with red being the most visceral, attention-grabbing color. The background's red shading, becoming increasingly brighther toward the middle of the advertisement, accentuates the bold red color, making the viewer's eye move into the center of the picture. This progression allows for the reader to associate the baseball stars depicted (Vlad Guerrero, Ryan Howard, Josh Beckett, Carlos Zambrano) with the passionate red background- an effective use of gestalt principles.
The "Postseason" banner is also particularly effective. Its golden color outline establishes a different pattern from the redness of the rest of the advertisement. The viewer's eye will immediately shift downward with the arm motion of the two pitchers on the bottom of the four-player collage. Thus, now the energetic red and its accompanied baseball players are paired with the golden "Postseason typography. From the use of gestalt color principles, the advertisement effectively generates interest for MLB's postseason in a tasteful, passionate manner.
