Gestalt
The rule of proximity is demonstrated in this picture. The picture is really effective because of the proximity of the figures. The proximity of the figures in the picture create a unified whole that is recognizable immediately up looking at the picture.
The picture above demonstrates the rule of similarity. The triangles all look very similar, and because of this people naturally perceive them as a group or pattern. The triangles appear to be a single unit because of their similarity. The purpose of the picture is communicated effectively because (1) the triangles are similar and create the image of a sun and (2) the yellow against the black background really make the sun POP.
