Color

This advertisement for Michael Moore's new film, "Capitalism: a love story", uses color effectively to both draw the readers' attention, but also to reinforce the theme of the movie. Since the film is about capitalism in the United States, the red, white and blue patriotic colors that are used emphasize to the reader what it is the poster is advertising. By choosing red as a background color, the entire poster pops at first glance. This warm red is set off by the blue star in the center of the poster which provides a nice contrast since blue is a cool color and complementary to red. By choosing white as the type color, the text stands out against the colorful background. The white text at the top of the poster acts as an entry point, drawing the readers eye in, while the rest of the white text down the poster draws the readers eyes down and guides them through the design. The color use in this poster is both simple and effective, producing an overall good design.
