This poster for a Michael Jackson film coming out in theaters this month shows an example of one aspect of the Gestalt Theory. Specifically, it contains the rule of figure/ground. In other words, it shows the silhouette of Michael Jackson filled with images and photos that work together to form his body. At first glance, your mind sees this silhouette of a person, upon further investigation you discover that it is Michael Jackson due to the photos on the inside of the mysterious outline.
The optical illusion of this design lies in its simplicity and interesting take on a minimalist design. The poster itself is really clean, taking advantage of white space and a dominant image. Also, the type at the top is a traditional all caps Serif font that compliments the overall streamline look of the poster. Also, the background of the poster resembles smoke as if the figure were performing on stage. This simple detail adds another layer and dimension to the design.
