Week Seven- Project Post

I wanted to do my poster design on the Boundless Playgrounds Annual Build and I knew that I wanted to do something with a girl on a swing. I wanted the image to be the main component of the design with her long, flowing hair leading to my headline of “Play Your Part”. For the main headline, I wanted to do a pun off of the word play and “Play Your Part” is the name of a Girl Talk song but it was perfect for my poster because it played off of the words play and part giving it a sense of volunteering.

For the image of the girl, I did a live trace of a photograph of a girl on a swing in Illustrator and then I dulled down the colors and softened the image. I figured I would make better use of whitespace with a landscape poster than with a portrait poster. So I positioned the girl so that it would look like she was swinging in from the side of the page with her long, flowing hair leading the eye to the headline that I did in Handwriting Dakota Regular because I wanted something that was fun and playful. The eye then leads down to the event information, for which I used Lucida Bright Regular, and then finally down to the Luke’s Love logo.

Also my actual poster has a warm yellow background and the tones in the image are shades of yellow and red, but for some reason when I upload it it turns bright blue.
